There is much debate about keyword cannibalization in the SEO industry.
Basically, it means where you have multiple pages competing for the same keyword.
We use a workflow in GSC (Google Search Console) to identify these pages and utilize them for internal linking.
This is an interesting case study (see link) on using Keyword Insights (great tool – highly recommended) to use the keyword clustering approach combined with keyword cannibalization to identify pages for consolidation and deletion.
This, along with content reduction after a content audit is a growing trend with several good real-world case studies showing positive effects.
